About Us
Stonecraft's history is presented below:
1981
Stonecraft was formed with the vision of supplying natural stone products for both home and commercial environments. In these early days our focus was very much on the growing popularity of fireplaces for both traditional and contemporary room settings. However this soon expanded to kitchen work surfaces, vanity tops, wall tiles and flooring. Our first workshop and showroom opened in 1981, manufacturing and displaying the largest variety of fireplaces and fires in Eastern Scotland.
1986
With demand growing for our products, our present purpose-built showroom was developed in 1986 in a strategic retail position in Lower London Road opposite Meadowbank Stadium. Our showroom enables us to display the many products manufactured from stones imported from all over the world.
1990
In 1990 we established our sister company, Dunedin Stone, at Macmerry Industrial Estate in the East Lothian countryside. This location allows us easy access to the Borders, Fife and Edinburgh City. Dunedin Stone specialises in producing sandstone for new build and refurbishment projects in Edinburgh's old and new towns as well as further afield. The latest hi-tec machinery and skilled masons allow us to continually win prestigious contracts to supply our stone on many of the city's finest developments.
1998
Our first purpose-built factory constructed behind the showroom, opened its doors in 1998. At that time, Stonecraft foresaw the importance of investing in the very latest stone cutting and CNC technology. This enabled our company to meet the exacting demands of the leading interior designers, architects and kitchen studios as well as the most discerning clients.
2006
In 2006 Stonecraft opened its state of the art factory, also in Macmerry Industrial Estate. This manufacturing facility incorporates some of the most sophisticated computerised stone working machinery in the world, which enables us to process your orders quickly, efficiently and with the minimum of fuss.
